GRAN FONDO FORMAT

  • The Gran Fondo comes in 3 distances: 40km, 80km and 120km
  • All rides are to be considered ‘rules of the road’ with all normal road markings (stop signs, etc.) to be observed.
  • EXCEPTION: rolling closure for 120km Elite category only! (see below)

  • total time rankings will also be posted (determines awards)

  • two timed climbing segments: Pretty River Valley and Red Wing (determines awards)

  • three timed climbing segments: Pretty River Valley, Epping Hill and Red Wing (determines awards; see 120km Elite EXCEPTION)
  • total time rankings will also be posted
  • 120km Elite EXCEPTION
  • from the start this group with be escorted by lead and tail OPP cars for a rolling closure procession throughout the course
  • as the race progresses the tail car will pass riders who are dropped when an approximate 100m gap is formed
  • once passed, riders falling behind the lead car must revert to ‘rules of the road’ and are no longer considered to be in the final Elite group rankings
  • at approximately 105km, when the Elite group crosses Grey Rd 2, the lead car will pull aside allowing for the remaining Elite group riders to race to the finish
  • final ranking for the Elite group will be determined as follows:
  • the cumulative time of three timed climbing segments: Pretty River Valley, Epping Hill and Red Wing
  • at the finish line, the time gap between the first rider to cross the line and each subsequent rider still within the group will be added to the cumulative time for the climbs to determine final ’total times’ and rankings (determines awards)
