“The Scarecrow: Known around the world as protectors of the countryside watching over summer’s bounty.”
The Scarecrow Gravel Ride invites cyclists whose form and conditioning have become bountiful through the riding season to join together at Horseshoe Resort on September 11th to take on Simcoe County’s roads and trails for a gravel adventure in the waning days of summer.
The 93 km ride through Oro-Medonte and Springwater Townships features just the right mix of gravel, dirt and pavement across scenic terrain and nearly 1000m of ascent. This route favours avid riders who are confident on any surface.
The ‘short route’ (up to 50km) opens the door to all cycling enthusiasts, best suited to bikes designed for exploring off-pavement: gravel, hybrid or mountain bikes all welcome with multi-surface tires recommended. Be prepared for a challenging but rewarding ride.
This will be a timed event and all riders will receive timing chips.
Both routes will be ‘RULES OF THE ROAD’ format except for the timed sections as outlined below:
- Short Route: 3 timed segments
- Long Route: 4 timed segments
Timed segments will be varied to balance for different riders’ skills and strengths. The cumulative times from all timed segments will determine rankings. Prizes will be offered in different categories.
There will be prize money for the top 3 in the 93 k (only) overall Men’s and Women’s standings (1st Place – $500; 2nd Place $350; 3rd Place $150).
All other categories will be by age (for each distance) and will feature prizes (swag) for the top 3 Women and Men in each category:
Category 1 – U 30
Category 2 – U 50
Category 3 – 50+
